2008 Flood, Cedar Rapids

Yesterday, Daryl and I took a walk downtown to look at the flooding. This is just the East side downtown. They have had much more flooding on the west side of town. We started at Mercy hospital that is on 8th Ave and 10th Street.

First Ave East. The building with the three advertising posters on it is the Cedar Rapids Community Theatre. Under water too is the historic Paramount Theatre on 3rd Ave.

Good pictures, Tom. I never thought of going to the top of the US Cellular Center parking lot.
We spent a few hours down there today doing a volunteer thing with Starbucks, handing out coffee to all the police, city workers and the National Guard guys, the National Guard guys, the National Guard guys, the National Guard gu...oh, sorry...got lost there for a sec.

Daryl went down after work today. He said, "where were all the Guard guys when were walking around?" Maybe we should have had coffee to give out?
